We had an exciting weekend doing our monthly steri clinic for #PACT as it was the first time we had used the awning on Matilda! We spent Saturday in Buffelsdraai which is in the Verulum area doing dogs. We spayed and neutered 9 dogs as well as vaccinating a few more. There is such a huge need here where veterinary access is nil and the dogs just breed and breed. If anyone wants to help with sterilising dogs in this area, PACT are looking for donations so we can do more dogs and really make an impact, I will post their apeal with bank details after this.

We then went back to Candace's house in Phoenix on Sunday to do cats, and because of our amazing van PACT didn't need to hire a marquee for the clinic! Another 17 cats won't be breeding anymore. Dr Lee Pachonik also had to stitch a nasty wound on a feral cat that looked like it had got caught in a fence, lucky cat to have been caught.

Thanks again to #PACT for raising the funds and helping so many animals, also to Sherwin for assisting with lifting and holding heavy dogs and then trapping cats on Sunday. He also took some pics of us at work.

'350 BLANKETS and food parcels were handed out this Saturday.

Magical is the only word that comes to mind when thinking about the pure joy these children showed when receiving a blanket. They were engulfed in a big blanket, smiles peeping out and the shivering stopped. The excitement was contagious.

Heartbreaking is the next word that comes to mind, when remembering the sight of 350 children, some honestly shivering uncontrollably in the cold while they ate their sandwiches waiting for a blanket. We don't let the children know when we are handing out blankets, these 350 children are at Angels Care every single Saturday for a food parcel. They live incredibly difficult lives, but our hearts were so happy knowing that they are going to be a little warmer in these freezing temperatures. THANK YOU to every single person who has helped us make this handout happen and allow us to do this life changing work, without you this would not be possible. As always, thank you just does not seem to be enough, but thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

The monthly J Leslie Smith 2-4-2 competitIon took place on 14 June.

The winners were Grace Mainprize and Barry Fairbrother. In second place were Mike Cain and Neill Birdsey. The winners of the Plate event were Bob Chetty and Pippa Griffin. Well done to all of them.

Three sessions of bowls were played using the interesting format of Last Man Standing. This day was enjoyed by everyone who played and also by those sitting on the sidelines watching. The ages of players ranged from11 years young to 84 (the young at heart). Thanks is extended to the Midlands Hillbillies who organised the day and had warm, welcoming fires going to help all arrivals keep warm on a very cold day. The warm Gluhwein provided by Pippa Griffin also helped to warm hands and hearts.

The winners of each session were as follows:
Session 1: Prizes went to the Players who had the first toucher on each rink.
Session 2: Mark Taylor, Colin Burden, Grace Mainprize, Barbara Hook & Kevin.
Session 3: Neil Wright, Colin Burden and Bob Chetty.

It is not easy recovering from a broken jaw! But this Long-crested Eagle has been an exemplary patient, remaining calm and taking the process in his stride and is on the mend after being admitted with a broken top mandible, injured eye, and severe concussion. The broken mandible is healing very well thanks to the impressive handiwork of Dr Oliver Tatham from Vet House Hospital. Unfortunately the vision has been impacted in the injured eye, and there is not much more the eagle can see besides light and shadows. Being a sedentary hunter, and not needing acute vision for pursuit hunting, there is a very good chance he will be able to adjust and function fine with one good eye. There is nothing wrong with his good eye, and although we still have a series of tests for him to pass before we give the all clear for release, we are confident he will pass these with flying colors.

Hippos can be very aggressive, and run at a speed of about 30 kilometers per hour. 

The hippopotamus is considered the world's deadliest large land mammal. These semiaquatic giants kill an estimated 500 people per year in Africa. Hippos are highly aggressive and are well-equipped to deliver considerable damage to anything that wanders into their territory.
