"There’s been a change of plan at one of the Midlands’ most beautiful gardens. Thanks to an early spring and the azaleas, rhododendrons and other seasonal blooms putting on their show a little sooner than expected, Benvie Gardens will be opening its gates earlier than originally advertised!
Every day from Saturday 12th September until Sunday 11th October, you can step into this magnificent 30-hectare historic garden and enjoy colour, towering trees, peaceful ponds and beautiful winding walks that make Benvie such a special place to visit.
Established by John Geekie more than 130 years ago and still lovingly cared for by his descendants, this remarkable arboretum is a living legacy of vision, patience and generations of stewardship. Designed as a circular walk, Benvie invites visitors to wander beneath a magnificent canopy of exotic trees collected from around the world. These majestic specimens frame sweeping lawns, tranquil ponds and spectacular seasonal displays of azaleas, Azalea Mollis and rhododendrons. In flowering season, the garden comes alive with rich colour, birdsong and ever-changing vistas that reward an unhurried pace.
Benvie is a place to linger. Pack a picnic, choose a quiet spot beneath the trees or
beside the water and spend time soaking up the peace and beauty of this
extraordinary landscape. This is a garden best enjoyed over several leisurely hours
rather than a hurried visit.

Directions: Take the Karkloof Road from Howick. Travel for 33km and that point, turn right on the York/New Hanover Road. There is a Benvie sign there. Travel down the York Road for 3km and follow the Benvie signs.
